Mid-State RBERN (Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network) welcomes you to the 2014-2015 school year. RBERN supports the academic achievement of English Language Learners through professional development and technical assistance. We look forward to another school year of service to our 123 districts.
It is exciting times in the ESL world in New York State. Upcoming revisions to Commissioner’s Regulations Part 154 will reshape the way we support our English Language Learners. The rollout of NYSED Office of Bilingual Education and Foreign Language Studies’ visionary BluePrint for ELL Success outlines priorities and expectations for how districts across the state are to provide instruction and support for ELLs in our public schools. Mid-State RBERN’s staff will be available to provide assistance and guidance during these changing times.
Mid-State RBERN’s staff includes Sally Doran, our senior resource specialist who has provided the highest quality workshops and technical assistance in our region for over a decade. In addition, she is the lead resource specialist for the Greater Syracuse and Southern Tier regions. Lisa Pye, who joined the Mid-State RBERN family a little over two years ago, will serve as the lead in the greater Rome and Utica area. We also have the services of Lee Beals, our Outside Education Expert who works as a consultant and advisor on a variety of projects. Mid-State would not run as smoothly without the business genius and organization of Cindy Seeley, our office manager. Finally, I am pleased to introduce our new part-time resource specialist, Collette Richmond who brings experience working with ELLs at the Elementary and Adult Ed levels and will be developing new resources for our region.
On behalf of Sally, Lisa, Lee, Cindy, Collette and I, we wish you a happy, healthy and safe school year!
